Trend Watch: Sheer Panelling

The cut out trend has been worn to within an inch of its life. A risky and risqué trend that calls for toned bodies and careful choices. However in September last year a new interpretation emerged. Instead of cut away that revealed bare skin a much more flattering alternative was seen on runways. Sheer panelling gives the allure of a cut away but with a chicer and much more becoming finish. Preen used it in skirts, as did Topshop Unique. It has also been shown across the shoulders. This is an age old tool that can transform the simplest cut dress to be wonderfully elegant. Dion Lee and Helmut Lang embraced the trend too. This fashion week has proven that sheer panelling is here to stay (at least until the end of next autumn anyway). Also as we near the end of award season two phenomenal pop beauties prove that sheer panelling provides the perfect blend of sex appeal while remaining demure. Along with Rihanna and Kelly Rowland, Eva Longoria, Kate Bosworth, Miranda Kerr and Kim Kardashian are just a few of the celebrities to also wear this look. This is a versatile trend that can be used in skirts, dresses and tops and formally or casually. Begin by wearing in the evening for now and as the weather warms up and the sun comes out casual versions will feel appropriate too.

Oh and what would you know... I wore it in October 2011! (Kelly obviously copied me.)
